No GPS signal, or the map won't centre on me

Short answer

Check location permission first: iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Tractor GPS → While Using the App. Then give the phone a minute or two with a clear view of the sky. If you're on a Wi-Fi-only iPad, it has no GPS of its own.

1. Location permission

iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services: make sure Location Services is on, then open Tractor GPS and choose While Using the App (or Always). Turn on Precise Location. Without precise location, iOS only gives an approximate position.

2. Sky view and settling time

Give the phone one to two minutes in the open. Inside a shed, under a roof, or behind a coated windscreen it may never get a good fix.

3. "This iPad has no built-in GPS"

Wi-Fi-only iPads have no GPS chip. Use GPS Relay from an iPhone running the app, or pair an external receiver in iOS and switch on External GPS Receiver in Settings. See setup.

4. The map is blank but the position works

The satellite background comes from Apple Maps and needs data. GPS works without it. For fields with no mobile signal, save the field and download its offline image in advance (No Reception Mode in Settings). Guidance and coverage carry on without a signal.

Questions

Not for guidance or recording, which use GPS only. The satellite map needs data unless you've downloaded offline images of your saved fields. The first launch and subscription need a connection.

GPS signals don't pass well through roofs. Take the device outside and give it a minute.
